Could you go completely without your smartphone for three weeks?
Around 100 young people in Germany tried exactly that.
In an experiment at a school in Rhineland-Palatinate, the young people handed in their smartphones for three weeks. Researchers observed, among other things, their sleep, their mood and their concentration during that time.
It was also interesting to see what suddenly happened with their free time. Because without a smartphone, it’s not just TikTok or Instagram that disappear. The quick glance at the phone at the bus stop, during a break or simply out of boredom is no longer possible either.
The experiment therefore raises a simple question: How much space does our smartphone actually take up in our everyday lives?
