Spotify is stepping up its fight against low-quality music and spam content, removing more than 75 million tracks from its platform. The streaming giant has also filtered over 50 million songs out of its recommendation system as part of its efforts to protect real artists and improve the listening experience.
As artificial intelligence continues to transform the music industry, Spotify is introducing stricter measures to prevent spam and misleading content from taking over its platform.
The company confirmed that more than 75 million spam-related tracks have been removed, while an additional 50 million songs were excluded from recommendations in 2026. The decision follows growing concerns about mass-produced music, artificial streaming activity and low-quality content.
Stricter Controls On AI-Generated Music
Spotify is targeting suspicious activities such as mass uploads, duplicate tracks, misleading metadata and artificial streaming schemes.
To identify problematic content, the platform uses a combination of listener feedback, streaming behavior, upload patterns and AI detection technologies.
However, Spotify acknowledges that detecting AI-generated content is becoming increasingly difficult as generative AI technology continues to advance.
New Protection Measures For Artists
Alongside removing spam content, Spotify is introducing new tools to protect musicians and their work.
One of these features allows artists to review releases associated with their names, helping prevent impersonation and unauthorized uploads.
The platform is also improving transparency by providing information about AI involvement in music production. AI-generated artist personas will face restrictions in editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless listeners actively choose to follow them.
With these measures, Spotify aims to create a safer and more transparent music environment while giving greater visibility to human artists, songwriters and producers.
The initiative highlights one of the music industry's biggest challenges: balancing the rapid development of artificial intelligence with the protection of artistic creativity and authenticity.
